First of all dating in general is hard for any person. Today guys just don't want to date. For
whatever reason they just like to "hang out". I don't understand why . However a person like me it even harder to date.
First thing I am ask by multiple of people is "why don't I date
deaf guys. Most of the time I do not
answer. Well I am going to answer to why it's hard to date a deaf guy.
1. For whatever reason deaf guys like to date hearing girls. I do not
understand this concept. If anyone can explain to me why I am on all ears.
2. Deaf guys that are my age are either on social security income and don't feel that
getting a job or getting an education is
important. Or they are just like hearing guys in general don't want to date
just "hangout".
3. A part of me is scared to date a deaf guy because my family can't
communicate with him. Therefore he would not want to go to family functions
(Which my family has a lot of). I do not want to become isolated
4. There is not a lot of deaf guys out here or maybe I haven't found the
right one..
Now am I completely against dating
A deaf guy? No.. I want a guy who is able to be independent not have to depend
on family for money or SSI or SSDI. I think it's important to marry a guy who
has an education. I want a guy who able to communicate to me as well as my
family.
Dating a hearing guy is just as hard as dating a deaf guy.
1. When Hearing guys find out that I am deaf or hard of hearing they
do not talk much during the date even though I have told them I do well with
lip reading and one on one .
2. They ask if I ever get married would I require my husband to sign.
I said it would be nice because I can't hear when my hearing aid is out or in
situations where it is hard for me to hear.. I see fear in their eyes.
Just talk normal.
3. One of my biggest pet peeves about dating hearing guys is they over
enunciate. Seriously!!!!
4. Another thing that I don't
like but understand why. They always ask
"were you always deaf" " How much can you hear". For once
on a first date I don't want to talk about deafness or "My Life
Story" I just want a normal date.
What is a normal date? Maybe there is't a normal date. I understand they want to know and why so they
can communicate better with me. But sometimes I get tired of that question.
5. Another pet peeves the first date is a movie. Seriously let's get
to know each other instead of silent. When we get out of the movie they ask me
"Did you like the movie" and
they start talking about the parts that I couldn't understand because I
couldn't read lips of the characters in the movie. When there is nothing left to talk about they
drop me off and say "I had a good time let's do this again". I have come to the conclusion when the say
that they are just being polite because they never call. I know they don't like
me because I am deaf or they are scared because they don't know what to do.
I just want to be treated like every normal hearing person. Is that
too hard to ask??? I talk , I may have a slight deaf accent. But for whatever
reason the minute I say "hey I am deaf/hard of hearing I just need you to
look at me when you talk" everything changes. Just because of one simple request.
So it is hard for a person who lives in two worlds to date because we
are not we are completely deaf. That seem to get the attraction of deaf guys.
We are not completely hearing therefore the hearing guys don't know what to do
with us.
